Tip #1 - His First Pay Check
It is customary in certain parts of India to give a month's worth of grocery to the bride so her marriage kicks off on a happy, stress-free note. Giving more is okay but never less. Some families proudly display it at the wedding, and some, play it low. Play along with the groom's.family.
If you are a smart bride, it will take you a couple of months to figure out the family's needs. (Huh?)
For a family of four, grocery worth Rs. 10,000 is more than adequate. More of that later
My advice to you both:
You're still young. So, save as much as possible. Savvy women set aside 30% of the salary as savings. Out of that 10% is allotted towards gold. You may feel that my estimate of the grocery bill is too high. Choose what is comfortable to you. Be smart and find out ways to get good bargains at your local store.
Good bargains are not the freebies but those that are in your list and you get two for the price of one if you buy it now.
Please note: An increase in salary does not mean an increase in expenditure. The increase should be put aside for savings and investments. (Hm...)
